Ruyi, the Maid

In the turbulent Republic of China, talented men and beautiful women, heroes and ambitious schemers, affairs of state and family, and the tender romances of the young all mingle amid yellowing photographs, quiet streets, and fluttering qipao skirts... The long whistle of a riverboat sounds along the Yangtze, awakening the dreams of so many sleepers. Like Ruyi, who refuses to believe she has arrived in this ever-changing era, she treats it all as a dream. But at last, the dream becomes too real, with blood, tears, and regrets and sorrows that cannot be soothed. Finally, she believes that it is all real... Because she falls in love with someone, she is content to stay. Where the heart’s beloved is, there is home.
