The Little Imperial Consort

In the first year of Shengping during the Great Qing dynasty, Ling Sicheng, the orphaned daughter of a marshal, went alone to seek refuge with her aunt and uncle, Zheng Jiasheng, the chief grand secretary of the imperial court. She never expected that they had summoned her to the capital to impersonate their own daughter, Zheng Meixuan, and enter the palace as a candidate for the imperial selection. Just as Ling Sicheng was deceived and ushered into the palace in a daze, her righteous and forthright cousin Zheng Mei learned what had happened. Without telling her parents, she sneaked into the palace to rescue her cousin, who was taking part in the selection. By a twist of fate, however, both girls caught the eye of the reigning Emperor Bao En and became his consorts. The fallen candidate Tong Suzhi, whom Ling Sicheng and Zheng Mei had rescued, became sworn sisters with them. The three girls resolved to look after and protect one another in the palace. But the three girls had no idea that the palace intrigues of the Great Qing dynasty were a tangled web of schemes. Emperor Bao En, his younger brother Rong Cheng, and Empress Su Hui would all become caught up in the love and hatred shared by the sworn sisters. In this absurd era, tragedy followed tragedy.
