The Heir Pursues the Commoner Female Chancellor

Many years later, the name Ye Shunan was still a legend on this continent. No one knew where she came from or who she was, but in everyone's heart, she was the empire's eternal, irreplaceable jewel.

After transmigrating, she was swept into the struggle among the princes for the throne.

Amidst shifting schemes and danger, she remained calm and composed. Clever and resourceful, she carefully planned every step, helping the man she had chosen ascend the throne. It had been nothing more than a transaction, and she intended to retire once the job was done. But the wheels of fate would not let her stop there.

With a frail body, she held a lonely city against all odds; with her keen mind, she routed the enemy forces; with a heart full of compassion, she ventured deep into a plague-stricken city. Thus, she forged a woman's legend.

A common-born female chancellor who had never appeared at court, and the woman Emperor Shengyao cherished all his life: the one who held her heart was the man who spoke gently to her with a faint smile and protected her at the cost of his life.

She wanted neither to rule the empire as empress nor to wield power over the court. All she wanted was to stand beside him and watch the summer moon and spring blossoms. At last, dressed in her wedding gown, they gazed into each other's eyes, and she became his Consort of the Heir. From then on, they would travel hand in hand through the world's splendor.

Yet a century later, in the cold imperial mausoleum, the only thing in Emperor Shengyao's hand was one of her jade hairpins.

Scene One (The Cannon Fodder): A cannon-fodder woman said, “Ye Shunan, who are you, really? What makes you think you can be with Brother Zhanbai? He was only pretending to be with you.”

Ye Shunan nodded, sounding quite sincere. “Oh, thanks for letting me know.”

The woman smirked. “Brother Zhanbai and I grew up together. My father and Prince Dan have already begun discussing our marriage.”

“Oh, congratulations.” She gave her a polite smile.

“What are you talking about?” A man walked up. He was none other than the man at the center of the conversation.

Sikong Zhanbai was looking at Ye Shunan, so naturally he was asking her.

“Oh, nothing. I just heard you're getting married, so I was congratulating you.”

“What? You've agreed to marry me?”

“Um... I thought this young lady was supposed to be your bride.” Ye Shunan looked at the cannon-fodder woman.

Sikong Zhanbai frowned and seemed to think for a moment. “Who is she?”

Who was she? Who... was she...? What happened to growing up together?

Scene Two (Jealousy): Ye Shunan brewed the tea herself and smiled as she handed it to Sikong Zhanbai. “This is the tea you had Zeng Hong bring last time. Try it and see what you think.”

Sikong Zhanbai took it with a frown. “You didn't get back until midnight yesterday after spending the evening at Prince Yi's residence?”

“That's right.”

“Were you alone together?”

Ye Shunan nodded.

“Oh. Then... I think Prince Yi and the young lady from the Yao family should hurry up and get married.”

Ye Shunan chuckled. “Your Highness, the Heir, are you sure this isn't just you taking revenge on him?”
