The Farmer Girl Takes Charge

Xia Chan transmigrated! When she opened her eyes, she found bare walls, broken windows, and battered chairs. Her mother was out of her mind, her little brother and sister were pitifully helpless, and her honest father was a helpless filial son. Her grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins were all one big happy family, except they all had it in for her household. With nothing to eat or drink and hunger gnawing at her, she took her little sister and brother and their mother up the mountain to forage for wild greens. She steamed a pot of wild-vegetable cakes, cooked a basin of fresh little fish soup, and hunted a rabbit for a rare treat. Her mother and siblings ate their fill, and there was plenty left over. Who says she’s a pampered young lady? She’ll carry a hoe and work the fields! She cleared wasteland and planted grain and vegetables, then fenced off an enclosure and raised chickens, ducks, cattle, and sheep. They had the produce, and they had the skills, but how could they find a big buyer and build a long-term business relationship? She heard that the eldest daughter of the Shen family in the village had thousands of acres of good farmland and several restaurants and shops. So Xia Chan cheerfully cooked a few dishes for her to try. Who knew those few dishes would whet the young lady’s appetite? She came by every day to mooch food and drink. Xia Chan made money, but she also ended up as the young lady’s personal maid. One day, while bathing in the hot springs, the young lady took off her clothes and revealed a chiseled eight-pack and perfect V-lines. Xia Chan couldn’t help getting a nosebleed. “Young Lady, you’re in great shape…” The young lady, who had always seemed so gentle, turned into a wolf and laughed wickedly. “Little Cicada, I’ve let you see me. Now it’s only fair that you let me see you.” Things were different now. Xia Chan finally understood that the young lady was a big bad wolf. Not only had she been thoroughly devoured, she’d also been saddled with raising the wolf cubs. One day, Xia Chan casually flipped through a stack of books by the bed. After a glance at the contents, her face turned bright red. “Where did all my cookbooks go?” The big bad wolf gave her an earnest look. “Little Cicada, these are the legendary baby-making manuals. They’re much more interesting than your cookbooks. We should study them carefully.” And so the big bad wolf dragged Xia Chan along on a wild journey to learn how to make babies and grow the wolf pack, taking them farther and farther from their original path. [A one-on-one romance with plenty of pampering. The heroine is an expert cook, making this a different kind of foodie story. The hero is a wickedly clever big bad wolf who disguises himself as a woman. There are despicable villains and plenty of warmth, in this sweet, doting farming romance with no angst.]
