That year, I was six, and he was seven. When his father died, he became my older brother, and his name changed from Di Mochen to Mo Canyang. Dad said he could change it back once he was able to take care of himself. It was a way to protect him.
I’ve hated him ever since kindergarten.
He came to live at my house and took half of Mom and Dad’s love. When we started elementary school, his perfect-student act made my teachers ask me more than anything else, “Are you really Mo Canyang’s little sister?”
As if! Of course I’m not.
In middle and high school, girls would mysteriously stuff their love letters into my hands and ask me to pass them on to my brother. Damn it, I’m not even his real sister. Mo Canyang is the typical obnoxious poser and big dope. In front of our parents, he acts like a perfect older brother; in front of teachers, a perfect student; and in front of everyone else except me, a gentle, polite, modest, and careful classmate. He’s exactly the kind of person I can’t stand.
But for a wonderful young woman of the new era like me, the right thing to do when faced with someone I dislike isn’t to reject him. I should reform him and make him the kind of person I like, so he can fit in with the crowd. That’s right: I need to launch an attack, take the initiative, and hit him hard. I’ll put the art of manipulation into practice to the very end!
I’ve always firmly believed that no matter what happens, no matter how bizarre things get, I must live on with optimism and determination. So, when we separated for reasons the readers will never guess, then reunited, everything seemed to have changed enormously, but our comically chaotic life was just as lively as ever.
Excerpt 1:
The next morning, at breakfast.
“Canyue, you’re getting worse and worse.” Dad sat in his chair, angry. “What kind of disc did you give Canyang?”
I took a bite of bread and glared at Mo Canyang. “What? I don’t know.”
The best thing to do at a time like this is to act cute.
“Didn’t you give it to me last night and tell me not to tell Mom and Dad you skipped school?” The person in question ate breakfast without changing expression, but dropped a bombshell.
“Di Mochen, you’re asking for it!” I stood up and grabbed his school uniform. “Just you wait. I won’t let you off!”
But my voice was soon drowned out by Dad’s furious roar.
Excerpt 2:
“Mochen, do you think I look especially pure in this white coat?” I asked with a smile, looking at him as he sat on the sofa reading the newspaper.
“You’re joking.” He didn’t look up from his paper. “You’re a pervert by nature. How could you be pure?”
“Why not? Lots of patients at the clinic today called me an angelic doctor.” I straightened my white coat and sat beside him.
“Do you also wear nothing under your white coat when you’re seeing patients?” He was as calm as ever.
“...” You bastard!!
