The Side Consort’s Sin

* [Excerpt One] “Your Highness, these are Consort Yu’s ashes.” He leaned back in his chair with his eyes closed, brows drawn tight and his handsome face ashen. He raised a hand. “You may go.” He had sent her so far away so she could wait for him, never imagining she would always be the one to leave first. [Excerpt Two] “Why did you try to kill my mother? Why didn’t you fight back?” At the edge of the cliff, all he could do was grab her sleeve. Seeing the pain in his dark eyes, she smiled sadly and slipped from his grasp. In her red robe with its torn sleeves, she fell like a beautiful butterfly, drifting gently into the rushing Yu Silk River. And shattered his heart, too. * She had been a woman who wanted nothing to do with the world, living on Mount Yufeng, but one day, a heart condition took her life. Her soul, however, attached itself to the body of a prince’s secondary consort. He was a prince of the Tianchao Kingdom, extraordinarily handsome and powerful at court. Yet he treated her with icy indifference and loathed her, because the former owner of her body had personally killed his principal consort. After all their twists and turns, their partings and reunions, he went from hatred to love, from desire to love, only for his principal consort to suddenly reappear... His choice was to send her away. But half a year later, what he brought back were her ashes. When they met again, she had become his younger brother’s wife. She meddled in politics and held sway over the imperial harem, yet under another identity she opposed him at every turn, even attempting to assassinate his mother... [Note] This is not a tragedy, though there is some angst along the way. The novel is also available at half price, so the complete story costs just a little over two yuan.
