I lean toward the receiving partner in BL and mainly care about how he's written. I want the giving partner to make the first move. I'm not too bothered by pretty or idealized giving partners, as long as the author doesn't imply in the narration that they want to kiss even if it means dying together. Check the comments for trigger warnings.
