Lin Wan is the daughter of the prime minister. She loves freedom and hates being restrained.
Her parents, however, want to use her as a pawn in a political marriage, intending to wed her to Zhao Qin, the son of the Minister of Revenue.
To defy her mother, she decides to escape by climbing over the wall. But along the way, she runs into a servant from her household, who chases after her.
In her panic, Lin Wan crashes into the arms of a man dressed in black and carrying a sword.
At a glance, she thinks he has a face as beautiful as jade, like an immortal in a painting.
By chance, she learns that his name is Xie Hui. He comes from a military family and has a cold, aloof personality.
Lin Wan often teases him and even gives him the nickname "Big Ice Cube."
Every time, she makes Xie Hui blush.
As the two grow closer, he accompanies her on shopping trips and takes her to see fireflies.
One night, Xie Hui suddenly embraces Lin Wan and tells her, "Wan'er, no matter what happens in the future, as long as I'm here, I'll keep you safe."
Lin Wan doesn't understand what he means, and remains immersed in the warmth of their love. Until one day, an imperial edict shatters everything good, and nothing is ever the same again.
