Jiang Tianzhu works in real estate sales, and her ultimate dream is to settle down in City B with her mother.
When it comes to selling houses, she dares anyone to claim they're better than her.
Recently, though, she's run into a bit of trouble.
Just as she was about to finalize the contract with a client, Sister Li, who was usually easygoing, asked her to meet her son.
This was how Sister Li described him:
"Our Qing is such a good boy, just a little shy around strangers."
"He usually just writes novels and earns a little pocket money. There's no harm in meeting him. My son is very cute."
Determined to land the big deal, Jiang Tianzhu gritted her teeth and agreed.
On the day they met, the son Sister Li had described as so sweet and adorable sat there with a cigarette in his mouth, looking at her with narrow, phoenix-shaped eyes and a faint smile.
He looked fierce, and not just in the face. His height was terrifying, too. Sitting there, he was like a little mountain.
For the sake of the big deal, Jiang Tianzhu summoned her exceptional professionalism and forced herself to make conversation with Sister Li's son.
She'd assumed that once this less-than-pleasant blind date was over, they'd never be in touch again.
But to her surprise, he contacted her first.
"Saleswoman Jiang, I think you perfectly fit the image of the heroine in my next novel."
Jiang Tianzhu snorted and promptly ignored the message.
As if. She'd already signed the contract with Sister Li. What else did she have to talk to him about?
"If you'll come to my studio for an hour after work every day and let me observe you, I'll buy that old Western-style house you've been unable to sell."
Jiang Tianzhu scoffed as she read the first half of his message. She was about to ignore him when the second half suddenly caught her eye.
Her breathing quickened. There was a saying in real estate: You can go a year without closing a deal, but one deal can feed you for a year.
*
It was only later that Jiang Tianzhu found out:
Lu Qing, who was built like a brown bear, didn't write ordinary fantasy or mystery novels.
He wrote horror and suspense.
And she was the greedy real estate saleswoman in his novel.
Jiang Tianzhu had never hated anyone so much!
As they spent time together, she discovered that this rough-looking bear did have a few redeeming qualities.
For example, his desserts were delicious, and he was an incredible cook.
*
Of course, he wasn't only good at cooking. He was pretty good at other things, too.
After spending a few months fooling around with him, Jiang Tianzhu took stock and decided she couldn't keep living such a decadent life.
She packed her things and prepared to get the hell out of his studio.
The day she left, a deal of hers fell through, and her new manager fired her.
So Jiang Tianzhu settled for the next best thing: going home and buying a house with the savings she'd accumulated over the years.
*
But she never expected Lu Qing to come after her.
"You're not selling the old Western-style house anymore?" That was the first thing he said after they separated.
"..."
"I mean, you don't want me anymore, Jiang Tianzhu!"
That was the second thing he said, his voice full of hurt and anger.
"You'd better not leave me!"
That was the third, and by then he was openly threatening her!
