Yan Zhi was banished to the mortal realm after picking fights and starting brawls in the Upper Realm. With his same old attitude of picking a fight with anyone who rubbed him the wrong way, he forced his way up to become an elder of a sect.
Then his cultivation went awry, and he transformed into a junior fellow disciple to enter a secret realm and seize its treasures. There, he happened upon Huo Du, a master of slacking off and scooping up easy gains.
At the time, the lazy Huo Du had been surrounded and attacked after accidentally coming across an opportunity.
Yan Zhi: Read. But I'm just passing by.
Some blind cannon-fodder disciple: What are you looking at? Keep staring and I'll gouge your eyes out!
Yan Zhi: ?
A moment later, lazy Huo Du saw disciples sprawled all over the ground, their fates uncertain, and began to tremble.
"Big bro! Take me with you!" With the admirable conviction that clinging to a strong person's leg was the way to survive, he really did grab Yan Zhi's leg. Because of the height difference, he almost ended up clinging to his upper thigh.
Yan Zhi, half a head shorter than him: ...
Yan Zhi hesitated between chopping off his hand and destroying his core, then decided that adults don't have to choose.
Wait, this kid has the opportunity he wants?
So he smiled warmly. "We're family. No need to stand on ceremony."
"Right, Senior Brother?"
And so the two fake fellow disciples began their miserable daily life: they didn't share their good fortune, but they did share every misfortune.
After being tormented and worn down until he wanted to bang a drum and plead his case, Senior Brother Huo Du asked:
"Junior Brother, are we really family? Or are we enemies?"
Having achieved his goal and removed his secret identity, Yan Zhi replied gently, in an excellent mood:
"Neither. I'm your master."
Huo Du cried so hard that his tears could have flooded all of Fuqing Mountain.
"Master, are you working so hard because you want to ascend?"
"No. I just want to live in peace."
Yan Zhi raised an eyebrow, his sword showing no mercy as he severed the enemy's immortal bones.
Huo Du looked at the mountain of corpses and hesitated, but still obediently stayed within the safe distance his master had marked out for him.
"Can I stay by your side forever, Master?" This was what Huo Du had kept buried in his heart for a long time. Now, all he could do was say it to a pile of bones and remains.
Already dead and having faked his death to escape Heaven's pursuit, Yan Zhi naturally couldn't answer.
His master was invincible beneath the heavens, a man whose sword sent a frost-chill across fourteen provinces. How could he, how could he possibly have died so easily at the hands of a little evil spirit like him?
He hadn't meant to really kill his master.
He hadn't.
