Moon in the Cave

Bittersweet | Push and pull | Rekindled love | Coercive pursuit

Xiao Jue, the regent, commanded a powerful army and had a cold, ruthless temperament. Since he had kept his distance from women for years, rumors spread throughout the capital that he had some unspeakable problem.

No one knew that in Hexi, he had once shared several passionate nights with a petite painter disguised as a man, only to be cruelly abandoned.

After that one time he had given his heart, Xiao Jue secretly swore that if he ever met that person again, he would tear them limb from limb.

At a spring banquet a year later, the imperial relatives and court officials gathered by Qujiang Pond.

Xiao Jue detested such a hypocritical affair, and was about to leave before finishing even half a cup of wine.

Just then, Gu Yunzhou, son of the Minister of Revenue, stepped forward to thank him. He bowed respectfully. "Thanks to Your Highness for arranging my marriage. I would like to bring my betrothed to thank you in person. We hope Your Highness will attend our wedding."

With that, he stepped aside.

Behind Gu Yunzhou, Yue Yuheng, the eldest daughter of the Yue family, dressed in plain clothes, curtsied and slowly raised her head.

Xiao Jue's gaze suddenly fixed on her. As his fingers tightened, his wine cup shattered.

She really dared to change her name and come back before him?

Bonus scene

One snowy night, in the loft, Xiao Jue saw Yue Yuheng's betrothed approaching with a lantern.

He bent down, gripped her waist, and pressed her more firmly against the window frame.

With his lips against her damp, sweaty neck, he whispered:

"He's back. He picked a fine time to show up."

"Why don't you go tell him the truth right now? I'll forgive everything that happened before. How about it?"

The Buddha she painted lowered his eyes and looked within, beholding all living beings.

But Xiao Jue wanted to be the only living being in her gaze.
