I Don't Even Talk About Akashi in My Dreams

I said I wouldn't even dream about Akashi.

But then I did.

Kamizuki Eri fell in love.

With the person she was always competing against for the top spot in their grade.

Eri didn't think she was particularly competitive.

But she did have a bit of a collecting habit.

She liked trying out different school clubs.

Though she usually left as soon as she was done trying them.

At first, she only wanted to experience being the top student for once.

But after two years of hard work,

she was firmly stuck in second place.

That was getting pretty annoying.

Her friend Chiyo had fallen for someone and often shared stories about him. She even suggested that Eri could try dating someone to relax a little.

Eri stood firm. Date someone? Not a chance. If she couldn't get first place, she wouldn't even dream about dating.

But without realizing it,

she began paying attention to Akashi.

Akashi was kind, gentlemanly, and perfect.

Aside from never letting her get ahead of him,

he seemed to have no flaws at all.

She was starting to fall for him.

Then she thought, if she dated the top student, wouldn't that make first place hers?

Eri had found a perfectly legitimate reason to confess.

*

After they started dating.

Eri: Seijuro is the best!

Chiyo: Did you get first place?

Eri: Yep!

Chiyo: Huh? Can being in love actually make you improve?

Eri: It has nothing to do with dating, but Seijuro is the best! Even if we weren't dating, he'd still be the best! I love him so much!

Chiyo: I get the feeling you just want to praise your boyfriend...

Eri smiled and nodded.

She loved him. She wasn't just taken with his perfect appearance, but also with the bright, hardworking person inside.
