*Dreams that cling relentlessly, with no way out x a dark, twisted evil god with countless tricks
During her winter break in her junior year, Yu Lan set aside her thesis, work, and other chores and went skiing in the Pingding Mountain forest area with a friend who was on the verge of a breakdown.
The night they arrived, mountains surrounded them and hail blocked the road. Their ride-hailing car suddenly broke down, so the group had no choice but to seek shelter for the night. Something about the place made them uneasy.
Her friend broke down, rambling and begging the heavens not to mess with her like she was some kind of fool. Yu Lan felt a heaviness in her chest, too, and couldn't help grumbling a little. Her foot accidentally came down on a roof tile.
A gaze latched onto her and followed her. Yu Lan looked down in horror and saw a number of vivid portraits beside the wall of the house where they were staying. They said this was a place where local gods were kept.
She had stepped on the portrait whose face was impossible to make out.
A white candle flickered right in front of her, its flame burning with an ominous air.
That night, snow covered the world outside her window. She alone was dragged into a summer night by something she couldn't see, left drenched in sweat as it clung to her.

By the second summer, after a year of being trapped in sticky dreams, Yu Lan had grown increasingly sleepy and exhausted, almost drained dry.
She even began to be dragged into hallucinations for no reason during the day, feeling a pair of eyes watching her at every moment and feeding on her reactions.
The day she got the job offer she wanted and moved into a place of her own, she wondered whether she should take someone's advice and find a boyfriend to borrow some yang energy from.
The moment the thought crossed her mind, someone knocked on the door of her new apartment.
Knock, knock, knock. The mechanical, stiff knocking sounded as though countless pebbles were being hurled at the door. An eerie silence fell all around, without even the faintest whisper of wind.
The feeling of being watched intensified a hundredfold. Yu Lan's hair stood on end, and dread washed over her.
"Leave the delivery at the door!"
After she raised her voice, it seemed to go quiet outside. Yu Lan hesitated for a moment, then gripped her phone and went to look through the peephole.
The next second, pitch-black pupils filled her entire field of vision without warning, greedily pressing against her face through the door and tracing and licking her trembling lashes.
The person reluctantly stepped back, revealing a handsome, refined face that looked somewhat stiff.
He slowly began to smile, his skin stretching with it as he reached for the lock. "Hello, ▓ I'm your new neighbor."
"The pipes in my place are broken. Could I come in ▓ for a moment?"
There was no time to refuse.
The door opened.
