In the second semester, a blue-haired girl transferred into Class 2-C at the serious, disciplined Rikkai University Affiliated Middle School. She was quiet and withdrawn, and even her smile seemed forced.
She joined no activities. Like dust floating in the air, she spoke to no one and shut herself away in a lonely fortress, apart from everyone else.
She was always skipping class, and when she did attend, she just lay with her head on her desk. The girl seemed utterly lifeless.
Meanwhile, rumors began spreading around Kanagawa. At abandoned buildings where people had died and on hospital rooftops in the middle of the night, people driven to despair were trying to kill themselves, only to be rescued by a blue figure.
Suicide rates were soaring throughout Japan.
But Kanagawa was somehow managing to remain calm.
None of this had anything to do with the students at Rikkai, until one cold winter, when a boy who had fainted was taken to the hospital. There, he encountered an animal that looked like a cat and a rabbit. Its blood-red eyes blinked as it smiled at him.
Then a sword pierced it without mercy.
The quiet girl from his class appeared in the hospital room, glanced at the boy in surprise, then jumped out the window and left.
The parallel lines of their lives suddenly crossed. The boys, who fought hard for their dreams, and the girl began to get to know each other. But in the end, their dreams were still shattered, and the world remained full of despair.
"I received all your pain and sadness. Would you like to start over?"
The white snake coiled around itself, looking at the girl with a smile.

She traveled between worlds with her various contractors, letting them share the tragic stories they had witnessed and drawing sustenance from them.
A clear, cheerful boy's voice cried out joyfully:
