After the college entrance exams, at their last class reunion, Xie Yan confessed to his crush, only to receive a gentle rejection: "I don't have feelings for you."

Deeply disappointed, Xie Yan decided to turn his grief into motivation and get a summer job early to save up for tuition.

He stammered, trying to let him down gently, but after hearing only half a sentence, the top student gave him a knowing look and walked away, saying, "You're not interested in me, so I'll be off, then."

Too proud to go after him right away, Shi Yu couldn't bring himself to make things right. He was still wondering how to find a chance to confess properly when his father joyfully announced his second spring, posting a picture of two clasped hands and a pregnancy checkup form. Shi Yu could never mistake that hand: it belonged to the top student, and looked exactly like the kind of hand that should play the piano.

Shi Yu panicked. Shi Yu was stunned. Then he tried to appeal to Xie Yan's feelings and reason, but all he got for his trouble was Xie Yan's bewildered gaze. Shi Yu thought that his irresponsible father was completely incapable of raising a child. He was living proof. Gritting his teeth, he decided that this tragedy shouldn't befall an innocent child. (Mostly because his father had chosen the person he was in love with.) So he accepted the situation and prepared to welcome a new "child" onto his household register ten months later.

Ten months later, Xie Yan nudged the "child's" father beside him and whispered that their son was hungry again and wanted barbecue and milk tea.

Shi Yu: Sure. Before, it was our daughter who wanted fruit and wouldn't settle down in the middle of the night until she got a fruit platter from a green-skin train. Now it's a son. Are you going to say they're twins, a boy and a girl, next?

Xie Yan: Maybe it's the third one.

Shi Yu: ...Fine. I'll buy it.
