After the college entrance exams, at their final class reunion, Xie Yan confesses to his crush, only to receive a gentle rejection: "I don't feel that way about you."

Devastated, Xie Yan resolves to turn his heartbreak into motivation and starts a summer job early so he can save up for tuition.

But after he posts the results of his hospital checkup, his crush shows up again in a daze and says, "You and him won't have a happy ending. Even if you get pregnant, marry me. I can be his dad."

Though he has no idea what's going on, being together is a good thing, right? Somehow, Xie Yan ends up with a "baby in his belly" and its "stepfather."

Shi Yu sees the famous top student in his class, the one he's fallen for, confessing to him. His head spinning, he stammers through an attempt at a gentle rejection. He has barely gotten half a sentence out when the top student walks away, looking understanding, and says, "You don't feel that way about me, so I'll go."

Too proud to chase after him right away, Shi Yu can't bring himself to make things right. He's still wondering how to find a chance to confess properly when his father joyfully announces he's found love again. The accompanying photo shows a pair of hands clasped together and a pregnancy test form. That hand is unmistakable: the top student's, looking like it belongs on a pianist.

Shi Yu panics, then freezes. He tries to reason with Xie Yan, pleading until he's hoarse, but all he gets is Xie Yan's bewildered stare. Shi Yu thinks his irresponsible father would never be able to raise a child properly. He's living proof. Gritting his teeth, he decides he can't let this tragedy happen to an innocent child. (Mostly because his dad is the person he's fallen for.) So he accepts the situation and prepares to welcome the new "child" on his household register ten months later.

Ten months later, Xie Yan nudges the "child's" father beside him and whispers that their son is hungry again and wants barbecue and milk tea.

Shi Yu: Sure. Before, it was our daughter craving fruit, and she wouldn't settle for anything but a fruit platter from the green-skin train in the middle of the night. Now it's a son. Will the next one be twins, a boy and a girl?

Xie Yan: Maybe he's the third one.

Shi Yu: ...Fine, I'll buy it.
