[This novel shares a setting with The Doomsday Dorm 404 after the characters return to reality, but the two books are not necessarily connected and can be read independently.]
Her mother always hoped Ren Xingyuan would read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles. When Ren Xingyuan went abroad to earn her doctorate, she thought she had fulfilled her mother's expectations. Little did she know that this was only the beginning.
One perfectly ordinary night, Ren Xingyuan opened a doomsday stockpiling novel to help herself fall asleep: Chapter One, the protagonist is reborn. Chapter Two, the first signs of natural disasters. Chapter Three, numerous students studying abroad go missing, and their families seek help on a forum.
Ren Xingyuan joined the long queue in the chapter comments: The students abroad are freaking out.
Then came a loud bang outside the window, and the apocalypse made its dazzling entrance.
When the apocalypse came, her first thought was: I have to go home.
The road ahead was long, with natural disasters and human calamities. She had only wanted to travel quietly, but suddenly she heard an announcement:
Haley Clark of Las Vegas, United States, has successfully destroyed World Rift No. 23.
Ren Xingyuan's eyes lit up.
After that:
Ren Xingyuan of Paris, France, has successfully killed Infection No. 1 in the Seine.
Ren Xingyuan of Vienna, Austria, has successfully destroyed World Rift No. 371.
Ren Xingyuan of Moscow, Russia, has successfully eliminated Invader No. 1 from World No. 232.
Her name rang throughout the world as people heard how she traveled twenty thousand miles to find her way home.
Dear Mom, wait for me. I'm coming home.
[There are powers, companions, anomalies from other worlds similar to infinite-flow instances, and a world System, but they don't take up much of the story. They're mainly there to fill out the setting for the world announcements. The focus is on a post-apocalyptic road trip. Details may be adjusted slightly before the story begins, but the core concept won't change.]
The whole point of this feast of dumplings is the vinegar of those world announcements: When the apocalypse comes, some people would rather risk death a hundred times than not go home. They will risk everything on the way just to tell the person they care about most, "Look, I'm fine. I'll be home soon."
