The young commandery prince Zhu Zhihuai has a childhood friend, Su Mingnan, who grew up alongside him. He's not very bright, not especially handsome, and thoroughly unremarkable in every way.
Nearly everyone in the Su family is shrewd. A simpleton like him naturally receives little affection in such a prominent household, and even the children his age bully him.
Zhu Zhihuai bullies him a little less than the others. Su Mingnan is so grateful that he keeps calling him "Zhihuai" and obediently trails behind him like a little tail.
Zhu Zhihuai thinks he's stupid, but the simpleton has no bad intentions. Zhu Zhihuai has few friends and is terribly lonely, so he lets him have a place by his side.
As he approaches adulthood and his coming-of-age ceremony, his mother, Consort, asks him with a smile, "Zhihuai, it's time for you to choose a consort. Why not choose Nannan? You two even have a verbal betrothal."
Zhu Zhihuai laughs. Could that simpleton be a commandery prince's consort? A betrothal made only in words doesn't count.
After that, the simpleton disappears.
Zhu Zhihuai carries on with his life just fine, only now he is always alone.
Until one day, he hears the news that the simpleton is going to marry someone else.
Zhu Zhihuai's mouth: "That's good. At least someone likes him."
Zhu Zhihuai's body: Wreck the engagement ceremony! Split up the happy couple!
Zhu Zhihuai: "What kind of pastry is this? Even a dog wouldn't eat it."
And yet Zhu Zhihuai: "You make him delicacies, but feed me something fit for a dog?!"
