[This one's on hold for now~ Check out my upcoming original, no-romance novel, A Manga Side Character's Guide to Surviving a Second Run]
After graduating from high school, Akiya Matsu inherited the family business and opened a flower shop in Mihua, where business was blooming.
On opening day, he enthusiastically delivered a welcome gift to the neighboring shop, only to hear:
"Poor kid. Why bring them a gift? You interrupted them while they were burying a body."
Akiya Matsu: ...?
"Poor kid has no idea. The place looks perfectly normal from outside, but there's a half-buried corpse inside the railing."
Akiya Matsu: ???
His eyes darted around before finally landing on the source of the voice: an innocent potted tulip by the entrance.
Tulip: "Shame it's too big to fit in a flowerpot. Otherwise, it'd make the best fertilizer."
Akiya Matsu: ...
I must've woken up too fast. I'm hallucinating, hahaha.
Then, that evening, after a group of elementary school kids had visited, the neighboring shop's owner was hauled away in a police car.
Akiya Matsu: ...
Good news: I wasn't hallucinating. (Joy)
Bad news: I'd rather have been hallucinating. (Closes eyes)
That's right. On his very first day as a flower shop owner, Akiya Matsu suddenly gained the ability to understand plants.
And that opened the door to a whole new world: Mihua, hell edition.
Akiya Matsu goes to the ramen shop:
"That couple fought again yesterday. What a racket. At least they won't fight anymore, since the shop owner's wife beat him to death. Problem solved at the source!"
"Wonder where the shop-owner-branded fertilizer went. Some lucky flowers must be getting it. I'm so curious~"
The shop owner's wife, who wore a kindly smile as she served Akiya Matsu ramen and told him her husband had gone away for a few days and wouldn't be back, left him smiling stiffly.
Akiya Matsu goes to the park:
"How nice! Another kind person fertilized us yesterday. This time it was a whole person!"
"Yeah! Not like the last one. That fertilizer came in little chunks. So stingy."
Looking at the suspicious patch of dark soil in the park's landscaping, Akiya Matsu's mouth twitched. He quietly left the park.
Besides seeing things he shouldn't, sometimes he heard things he shouldn't, too.
"That kid uses his watch to knock the detective out every time, then stands behind him and solves the case in the guy's voice. Are people blind or what?"
"You know what they say, you have to establish a persona. Maybe the kid's helping the guy build his great detective persona."
Akiya Matsu: Detective Mori, you...
"That blond waiter is incredible. He can be a detective and a waiter at the same time!"
"You're way behind. He's actually a police officer with the Public Security Bureau, secretly working on some kind of mission."
"What? But I saw him making plant fertilizer for some weird black organization. Only, he never buries any fertilizer for us."
Akiya Matsu: Amuro, you...
Akiya Matsu: ...
Where on earth have I ended up? I thought this was hell, but it's Mihua. Hahaha.
"I'm glad to meet everyone on A Jin, rather than some strange little website. QAQ"
