The Male Lead of an Imperial Exam Novel Became My Child Bridegroom

Gu Xi was transmigrated into the womb and born in ancient times. The first few years went smoothly enough. When she was nine, her father died. Four years later, her mother remarried.

Her mother chose Han Wenbin, a widower with just one son.

Gu Xi was fairly pleased with him. He was wealthy, and he had a good son. His son, Han Chen, was the protagonist of an imperial-examination novel, destined to pass the exams, rise through the ranks, and achieve great things.

But life is unpredictable. Two months before the wedding, Han Wenbin went out on business and ran into bandits. He and his cargo vanished without a trace.

Overnight, Han Chen was the only one left in the second branch of the Han family.

Out of consideration for their relationship, Gu Xi’s mother decided to take Han Chen with them. “His father’s gone, and all he has left are his uncles. If we leave him behind, they’ll devour him alive. Look, he’s handsome and well-read. He can come with us and be your child groom.”

Gu Xi pointed to herself. The protagonist of an imperial-examination novel was going to be her child groom?

A little scene:

A few years from now, Han Chen would be the protagonist of an imperial-examination novel, soaring to success. For now, though, he was just dead weight.

Forget being a child groom. He’d be better off as a servant doing her chores.

A few years later, Han Chen passed the exams and became the talk of the town. Gu Xi thought that now he was going to be an official, he probably wouldn’t be able to do chores anymore, so she bought a few handsome young servants.

That night, she called for them to come in and attend to her. When no one showed up for a long time, Gu Xi waited until she was half asleep.

In her daze, she felt a hand climb up her ankle. Gu Xi opened her eyes...

Han Chen was kneeling on the floor. “Am I not good enough? Who else do you want to wait on you?”
