Jing Wei went down the mountain to make a fortune and, along the way, brought back a delicate, timid little boy.
The mountain stronghold erupted: "Chief, did you kidnap yourself a child bride?"
Jing Wei's face turned cold, and she scolded them into silence.
As if! This was the emperor.

For a variety of reasons, Jing Wei helped raise the deposed little emperor.
But she had no idea that an emperor could be such a crybaby.
He cried when there were too many people and he got nervous. He cried when it thundered and rained.
When she made him do chores, he sobbed as he scrubbed the clothes.
When she ordered him to stop crying, he shrank back in fear, and two more tears fell.
Jing Wei had no idea how to raise a down-and-out emperor.
He had no one else in the world, so it made sense that he was always clinging to her.
He was afraid she'd abandon him, so it made sense that he was always looking at her.
It was perfectly normal for him to knock on her door now and then, clutching his pillow and looking pitiful.
The little emperor had once lived in luxury. The nights in the mountain stronghold were so dark, how could he possibly sleep alone?
Jing Wei generously offered him half her bed and let him climb in on his own.
But later, as the boy grew into a young man, he bit his lip and gazed at her through tear-filled eyes, the corners of his eyes flushed with a pitiful red. That's when Jing Wei realized something seemed to have changed.
She couldn't help wondering what the people in the stronghold had said at the beginning.
