The economy is in recession, and demons are in despair. A disabled demon with zero magic from the slums just wants to take the bounty hunter exam to earn enough to eat, but ends up in the wrong examination room and is forced to take the exam for an angel civil-service job?
His examiner is Zhen Ye, the legendary archangel: a warmonger, cold-blooded, and high-ranking.
The rules are simple: he can't escape, he can't refuse to take the exam, and he can't let anyone discover his identity, or he'll die on the spot. Diamond rolls his eyes, steels himself, and hopes to survive. But Zhen Ye says, "You did well."
Before this, Diamond had used all his cleverness just to survive hardship.
This is the first person in his life to praise him.
Fine, Diamond admits he's kind of fallen for him. Zhen Ye is beautiful, and when he's not being mean, he's quite gentle.
But that was only the prelude to Zhen Ye coldly and mercilessly exposing his demonic identity to the angels.
Diamond: When did you find out?
Zhen Ye: A long time ago.
Heartbroken Diamond: Before we kissed?
Zhen Ye doesn't answer. By then, the entire continent of Fagu has issued a wanted notice. Angels, demons, bounty hunters, and humans all point at the demon Diamond and roar, "Kill this demon incarnate!"
Fate flips a coin:
Heads: You're a lowly demon, a failure, a half-breed.
Tails: You're the prophesied "demon incarnate" who will destroy the angels.
Zhen Ye is an archangel:
Heads: He will kill you.
Tails: You're destined for each other. He will betray all the angels for you and elope with you.
The game begins. No one gets to quit.
The coin hits the ground, and the world begins to tilt.
Everything is going terribly. If you had another chance, would you do it all again?
Diamond says he would still make the same choice.
Zhen Ye says they were destined to end up this way, even if they had another chance.
