Julian, a jazz pianist, decides to die.
The man who saves him is a serial cheater he met just a few days earlier.
*
The first time they meet, Julian is living in a basement when he sees Liang Yuehai, impeccably dressed in a suit, rummaging through boxes. “It’s all trash. Stop digging through it.”
Liang Yuehai’s ex comes up and slaps him. Only then does Julian learn that Liang Yuehai is the cheating scumbag.
The next time they meet, Julian is sprinting down the street with someone hot on his heels. “Pay up, you contract breaker!”
Liang Yuehai, just out of a hotel after closing a deal, watches the scene unfold. So the pretty boy with Christmas-tree-colored hair is a music scammer.
A cheating scumbag meets a music scammer.
Julian asks Liang Yuehai, “Help me with my lawsuit, and I’ll sleep with you.”
Liang, a lawyer with professional integrity but no personal morals, refuses in utter disbelief.
*
On the first day after Julian wakes up from nearly dying,
Liang Yuehai asks him, “How much do you owe?”
“Two million.”
“Gambling?”
“A contract with a music company.”
Liang Yuehai demands, “Why did you sign it?”
Julian replies, “You should be asking why this city deceived me.”
Maybe that’s a hard question to answer. Liang Yuehai simply tells him, “Come see me after you’re discharged.”

After Liang Yuehai saves his life, Julian decides to start over.
A cheating scumbag meets a music scammer.
Or, put another way,
An insomniac lawyer with an elite title meets a poor jazz musician from the basement.
*
“Liang Yuehai, you’re a coward.”
Liang Yuehai is cold and insists on winning even when he plays chess against children. He believes love has no future.
But Julian is going to prove to him
that this is a false premise.
