Sky Screen: I Played County Magistrate Simulator and Got Watched by Everyone

[Dear readers, please add “The Sky Screen Reveals That the Number One Foodie of the Yu Dynasty Is Actually an Emperor for the Ages” (now updating) and “Help! The Whole Court Can Hear My Wild Ideas About My Job!” to your favorites!] Li Jing'an transmigrated into County Magistrate Simulator, the game he'd spent eight hundred hours grinding, and became the new magistrate of a poor border county. Three major debuffs stacked from the start. Sickly Beauty Debuff: So weak he could barely stand, panting every three steps, his pale face glowing like a glass lamp in the dilapidated county office. Poor County Hell Debuff: The people's grievances were boiling over, rats ran through the granaries, mineral deposits were nowhere to be found, and the medicine box was empty... On top of that, there were two years of crushing tax debts left behind by the previous magistrate?! Map Debuff: A map of the county? A blank sheet, clean as snow! Faced with this reality, Magistrate Li looked as though a gust of wind could knock him over. He tapped his fingers on the table and smiled in a way that made one's heart skip a beat. “Don't panic when there's a problem. Let's start with a small goal: full granaries in every season, a steady stream of merchants, the sound of students reading aloud, and no one leaving anything behind on the road.” Li Jing'an didn't know that every move he made was being livestreamed in real time on the sky screen, broadcast directly above the capital! At first, the officials thought he was fooling around. “Make the people... dig... dig up manure?! Ugh!” “Cough... cough... He actually moved bricks himself? He's sick to death, isn't he?” But as the scenes on the screen unfolded, everyone gradually realized that Li Jing'an not only followed through on what he said, he did it even better. The manure pits he dug while coughing up blood lit the lamps of countless households. The dilapidated kilns he built while frail and sickly produced glazed blue bricks worth their weight in silver. The piles of waste he pointed to with his pale fingers yielded divine weapons that could cut through iron. Later, the trade routes throughout Yunshuo County bustled like dragons, rice fields gleamed gold, children read aloud in the schools, and the granaries were full while the people lived in peace... The civil and military officials were suddenly eating their words. Their comments went from “Nonsense and absurdity” to “Huh? He might be onto something?” and finally to a long, deafening silence of numb disbelief. When Li Jing'an said, coughing, “Next year, let's try building an irrigation project,” memorials instantly piled up on the imperial desk. “Give him everything! Money, people, land, mines, all of it!” Even the most old-fashioned officials couldn't help remarking, “Cough... If it's Li Jing'an... then even building a canal to the heavens... seems reasonable!” After achieving fame and success, Li Jing'an was summoned back to the capital. Along the way, he received countless looks of earnest, respectful, and even bizarre adoration from the officials. Li Jing'an: “???” Everyone... do we know each other? Only when he stepped into Zichen Hall and looked up did he see it: That all-too-familiar sky screen was livestreaming footage of him staying up late to draw up plans, coughing so hard he trembled over his desk?! Li Jing'an: “...” In an instant, the social death he'd accumulated over the years erupted like a volcano! His pale, sickly face turned scarlet with rage, and his knuckles clenched until they went white. “I %@%&... What the hell is this stupid game? Why does it have a server-wide livestream announcement?!” Theme: Build a New Five-Good County Town
