A Cast Member on a Farming Variety Show for Seniors

[Overworked New Grad vs. Gardening Grandma]

Drawn by the promise of employee benefits and an internship certificate, recent graduate Yuan Qing joins a low-budget variety show recommended by his roommate.

What he doesn't realize is that it's a farming show for the elderly.

And so, chaos becomes Yuan Qing's everyday life.

Scene One

"Isn't two mu of land enough for you? Why are you wrecking the landscaping?" Yuan Qing leaps forward and snatches the shovel from Grandma Gu. "Confiscated!"

Scene Two

"Yuan Qing, Yuan Qing, wake up. The big bad's started pulling up someone else's vegetables." The director's voice in his earpiece sounds like a demon, ruining Yuan Qing's afternoon nap.

Pulling up vegetables? What does that have to do with him? Yuan Qing rolls over and goes back to sleep.

Wait, pulling up vegetables!

By the time Yuan Qing gets to the garden, Grandma Zhu has already pulled up a whole basket of vegetables. She waves cheerfully at him. "Qing, we'll have bok choy for dinner!"

Watching Grandma Gu across from her gripping a shovel like a weapon, ready to avenge her bok choy, Yuan Qing silently sheds a tear of bitter anguish.

Scene Three

Besides the grandmas who love gardening, the show also has a wealthy sponsor's father, Grandpa Wang, who's been sent on by his rich kid.

His motto is: if you can lie down, don't sit; if you can sit, never stand.

Yuan Qing has a daily exercise quota to meet with him, so every day he forces conversation even when there's nothing to say.

Grandpa Wang, on the other hand, thinks he's found a kindred spirit across the generations. "Xiao Yuan, I always feel I was born in the wrong era. Back in my day..."

Back in his day, he shouldn't have signed the contract for this show.

Yuan Qing gazes up at the sky at a 45-degree angle, trying not to let the tears fall.

After finally surviving thirty days of filming, Yuan Qing thinks he's about to get his freedom back.

But the sponsor takes his hand and urges him with all his might to join the second season.

Yuan Qing... Yuan Qing is dead.
