After Mistaking a Powerful Figure for a Frail One

Wen Chaoyu transmigrates into a book and becomes the frail real young master of the Marquis's household, who was switched at birth. After being found and brought home, he is still neglected by his parents, who only dote on the fake young master they've raised as their own son for eighteen years.

But Wen Chaoyu's arrival makes the fake young master feel threatened, so he finds an excuse to send him to a manor outside the capital to await his death.

There, Wen Chaoyu meets another poor soul, lonely and of tragic origins. Not only that, he's disfigured and disabled, and even frailer than Wen Chaoyu himself!

Taking pity on him, Wen Chaoyu brings him a portion whenever he buys and boils medicine. Whenever he manages to get something tasty, he saves a bite for him too, as a way to earn some good karma before helping him along on his way out.

Until one day, after some time has passed, Wen Chaoyu is drugged and runs in a panic into the cripple's room.

By a twist of fate, the two end up tangled together. Wen Chaoyu feels tender toward him and is about to say something comforting when a strong hand grabs both his wrists and pins him beneath him.

Wen Chaoyu: "?"

So much for being frail?

-

Zhuo Lianyan is renowned as the most powerful minister in the imperial court. His moods are unpredictable, and he can lead armies in battle or outdebate the scholars.

He never expected that after waking up one day, the sickly little cat who had just moved in next door would mistake him for one of her own kind, stick to him all day, and treat him with all her heart.

So this sickly little cat must be not only physically frail, but not very bright either.

The fake young master thinks so too.

After waiting ages for Wen Chaoyu to die of illness and seeing him grow healthier instead, the fake young master finally loses patience and hires someone to assassinate him.

The assassin's knife ends up in the powerful minister's bedchamber.

Furious, Zhuo Lianyan storms back to the capital and turns everything upside down, finally tracking down the culprit.

In front of the entire Marquis's household, he plunges the assassin's own knife into the fake young master's body. As the man collapses to his knees, Zhuo Lianyan asks the assembled household, unhurriedly, "Wen Chaoyu is my wife. Why aren't you all kneeling alongside this dead man?"
