Mission 1033 became famous at the transmigration bureau.
The reason was that a mission originally rated C had been upgraded to SSS after one Host after another failed it.
Honestly, the mission was simple: transmigrate into a book and go back to the target's middle school years, bring warmth to someone suffering from bullying, and ultimately prevent them from going down the path of darkness.
There were easily nine hundred and ninety-nine missions like this at the transmigration bureau, if not a thousand.
The bureau was short on Hosts, so everyone eligible was sent to take on this mission. Every single one came back a failure, and they all said they had no intention of trying to win over the target a second time.
The Hosts included warm-hearted puppy-dog types, silent protectors, righteous types, and many others. But sadly, when the time came, the target still went dark, without giving a damn about any of them.
The bureau was out of options. Reluctantly, they turned to the last Host left: Le Yang.
At first, the bureau had ruled Le Yang out. They were afraid that if he went, the target would be bullied by Le Yang before anyone else could stop the bullying.
After all, Le Yang was famous at the bureau for being an absolutely savage mean gay. He always wore a look that said he couldn't stand anyone. His outfits were so fashion-forward they gave everyone in the bureau rheumatism. Anyone who saw him gave him a wide berth, afraid he'd give them a once-over with an expression that seemed to say nothing and everything at once.
But the bureau really had run out of options.
.
Le Yang was the only Host who had never carried out Mission 1033. The bureau looked at him, deeply troubled. The mission had to be completed, but sending Le Yang meant a bleak future.
To give the mission even the tiniest chance of success, the bureau applied for a System for Le Yang.
It wasn't very advanced. It only had one function: mind-reading.
And it could only read the target's thoughts.
Unfortunately, the budget was tight, and the function had a flaw.
It could hear the target's thoughts, sure, but what it heard was the exact opposite of what the target was thinking. In other words, if the target wanted to go west, Le Yang would hear that they wanted to go east.
For now, nobody knew about this bug.
The bureau spoke to him earnestly. “Le Yang, it's all on you. Just do what you hear in the target's thoughts, and we're sure you can win them over and complete the mission!”
Le Yang chewed his gum and blew a bubble.
As the Host with the lowest success rate at the bureau, he wasn't about to let anyone manipulate him. Nobody was going to pressure him, thanks.
