[Yuqing's Perspective]

Yuqing was dealt a bad hand in life: a father who disappeared during his childhood, a cold mother, and him, weak, helpless, and pitiful. Fortunately, he didn't believe in fate. When he was seventeen, his mother died and his father went to prison. He gave up all his financial aid and resolutely headed south to find work.

He started school three years late and only made it through ninth grade. He couldn't remember how much hardship he'd endured, but Yuqing thought it was still better than when he was little. Now he could earn money and take care of himself. He didn't have to live under someone else's roof, go hungry or freeze, or owe anyone anything.

Ten years passed in a flash. At twenty-seven, Yuqing had a small business, his own shop, and a car. People tried to set Boss Yu up on blind dates, but he turned them all down.

He did long for a home of his own, but childhood trauma had left him afraid of women, something he found difficult to tell anyone. From the moment he was old enough to understand, he knew that without his family's money, no one would respect him. He'd never managed to accomplish anything through his own abilities.

He fought, messed around, and used his fists and family connections to rule the school. He acted overbearing, but it was all a cover for a lonely, fragile heart.

At the most confused and immature point in his life, he met the person who was strongest, most determined, earnest, and ambitious, and who would influence him for the rest of his life: his deskmate, a top student with a high, elegant nose and rosy lips, so beautiful that he couldn't look away.

At first, the immature kid tried unbelievably silly ways to get Yuqing's attention. Later, he made a point of bringing delicious treats every day for his skinny little deskmate.

For the first time in Yuqing's life, he felt important and cherished.

And thanks to Yuqing's influence, Cang Zeyu stopped trying to prove himself by throwing his weight around.

Their relationship grew closer and closer, and the line between friends was on the verge of disappearing.

For ten years, Cang Zeyu had thought of his fair, beautiful deskmate, who had come first in every exam.
