Ice-cold marquis x sunny demon catcher
1.
Song Fuying was born into a merchant family. Because she had an ill-fated destiny, her father abandoned her in the countryside when she was little. She taught herself all sorts of unorthodox arts and became a demon catcher.
By chance, she obtained an ancient fragment of a scroll. It let her summon a mysterious man at night, one who was absolutely obedient to her and helped her catch demons for money.
Her summoned sweetheart was handsome and strong. When she told him to go east, he never went west, and he dispatched demons cleanly and efficiently. He was so useful.
Before she could put her skills to full use, her useless father suddenly came all the way from Chang'an to tell her she'd been promised in marriage to Xiao Jue, the powerful Marquis of Yongning.
Song Fuying: ???
For the sake of the old agreement, she agreed to marry into the marquis's household. By day, she played the dignified lady of the house; by night, she took her sweetheart around to make extra money.
She hadn't expected the marquis's household to have so many rules. She was exhausted from constantly ingratiating herself with people during the day, and at night she still had to act obedient in front of the ice-cold marquis.
As the days passed, Song Fuying looked at her ever-obedient sweetheart and suddenly thought that instead of suffering in the marquis's household, she might as well spend her life with him.
2.
Xiao Jue, Marquis of Yongning, was cool, dignified, aloof, and taciturn. He was the sharpest blade in the imperial court.
Few people knew he had an unspeakable affliction: for the past three months, he had been disembodied at midnight every night. When he woke, he had no memory of what happened, his whole body ached, and his clothes were stained with dirt and blood.
An expert had declared that only marrying a woman with an ill-fated destiny and having her protect the household could break the curse.
His new wife came from humble origins. She was very obedient, never left the house, and had little experience or knowledge of the world. If he said east, she never went west. She was utterly boring.
Until the night of the fourth day, when he opened his eyes to find himself in a gloomy mass grave.
His gentle, dull new wife from the daytime now wore narrow sleeves and a cinched waist, her dark hair pinned up high to reveal the pale nape of her neck.
There was none of her daytime demureness in her eyes and brows. Her eyes were astonishingly bright. “Quick, young master! Catch that demon for me!”
Xiao Jue: ...?
Case solved. There was no evil curse. This woman was illegally summoning him.
Later, as they caught demons side by side night after night, Xiao Jue gradually fell in love with her.
He had already decided to spend his life with her, but after another close call, Song Fuying nestled in his arms with tears in her eyes and said, “How could that ice-cold Xiao Jue compare to you? Just you wait, I'm going to write a divorce agreement! Who cares about Xiao Jue? I'll marry you!”
...Wait?
[Bonus Scene]
On the night the divorce agreement was discovered, before Song Fuying could stuff it into the candle flame, Xiao Jue grabbed her wrist and hurled her onto the bed.
Her back pressed against the cold jade mat, while his burning body loomed over her. The clash of ice and fire made her tremble uncontrollably.
Xiao Jue held her wrist and drew her hand inch by inch over his heaving chest and Adam's apple. The heat made her fingers curl.
A dangerous flush rose in his eyes. He leaned down and bit her earlobe, his voice low and hoarse. “Why are you hiding? You were bold enough to write a divorce agreement, weren't you?”
