The Underworld's Chief never interfered in the karma of others.

But Chu Jiang made an exception for Bai He, once, twice, three times...

He told himself that demon ghosts were rare, and a living one was more interesting than a dead one.

But as Bai He repeatedly reduced himself to a wreck, casting aside his dignity to kneel before Chu Jiang, all to beg him to revive that man, Chu Jiang felt a fury and helplessness unlike anything he had ever known.

And there was another emotion rising within him, one he couldn't put into words. Chu Jiang could no longer deny that he was jealous of that man, the one Bai He would do anything to save.

"Bai He, who do you think I am?"

He spoke one word at a time, his voice as cold as the River of Forgetfulness.

"I can't save that person."

"So, should I call you Jiang Yan or Chu Jiang?"
