Don't Pick Up Strange Men by the Road

Wen Xu transmigrates into a book. According to the original plot, he is sent into the palace by his family, who mistake him for the Sixth Prince, a prince who was replaced at birth and raised among commoners. His real identity is eventually exposed, and he is poisoned to death.

Wen Xu: What kind of cannon-fodder plot is this?

Before the plot can even get going, he makes a run for it. On the way, he unexpectedly comes across a badly injured man who has fallen down a cliff.

The man is covered in blood, but his handsome face is impossible to hide.

Wen Xu is moved by his good looks (crossed out) and helps him out of kindness.

Believing in doing good without expecting anything in return, it doesn't take long before he is in bed, feeling the man's abs and kissing him. They spend romantic nights together and pledge themselves to each other.

The man promises to give him a life of success and wealth someday. Wen Xu looks at the man's pockets, which are cleaner than his face: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, you're absolutely right.

Who would have thought that one day, imperial guards would come looking for the man?

Wen Xu accidentally overhears one of the guards talking to him. "It's his good fortune to have caught His Highness's eye. If he refuses, just break his legs and take him back to the palace."

Wen Xu: "..."

From the guard's words, Wen Xu learns two things:

One: The man is of noble status and a member of the imperial family.

Two: He can't afford to provoke the forces of evil.

Wen Xu immediately packs his things and runs.

They've already kissed, anyway. His life matters more.

Wen Xu enjoys half a year of freedom among the commoners. But when the time comes, the original plot kicks in, and he is still sent to the palace as the Sixth Prince.

Wen Xu can only pretend to be a prince as carefully as possible, hoping to stay alive.

Even more, more, more, more dangerously, the notoriously ruthless and sinister Crown Prince, the original story's villain and his nominal elder brother, Li Yunji, turns out to be the "wild man" he had seduced and abandoned.

Wen Xu: Ha, ha. Can I reload my save?

In the bedchamber, Li Yunji looks at him with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. "What did you say back then, hmm?"

"That you couldn't live without me?"

"That you'd love me forever?"

Wen Xu smiles awkwardly. "Imperial Brother, um, this... isn't really appropriate, is it?"

Li Yunji: "You think I don't know your true identity, little liar?"

Wen Xu's pupils contract.

"Don't be afraid..." The man embraces him and laughs softly. "Your imperial brother will keep your secret, as long as you behave this time and stay by my side."
