The Demon King Is Still Waiting for the Hero to Advance the Plot Today

[Exhausted demon king gong x mischievous hero shou]

In an open-world game, the demon king Seville is bound by the main quest and trapped in his castle, waiting for the hero to come defeat him. He can only win his freedom after reaching the ending, "The hero defeats the demon king."

But day after day, the hero never shows up. The demon king can take it no longer, so he exploits a bug and puts on a secret identity to check the hero's main-quest progress.

Meanwhile, the hero Lanny finishes a side quest to pass along a message for a child and happily checks it off in the quest log.

Quest log:

Side quest 1: complete. Side quest 2: complete. Side quest 3: complete... Side quest 66: complete...

Forced by the demon king to take on the main quest, the hero arrives at the first stage boss.

The stage boss has already received the king's orders to hold back, waiting for the hero to land one powerful attack so he can bow out successfully.

But halfway through charging up his special attack, Lanny suddenly stops fighting, dashes out of the battle area, and plucks a blade of grass.

"Finally, I've gathered 99 Sunblaze Grasses! Another collection quest complete!"

The battle progress immediately resets when the hero leaves the fight.

A goofy little Western fantasy short story, just for fun. I'll write wherever my dreams take me. Expected to be around 30,000 words.

Theme: Nothing is happier than being free and unrestrained.
