Story blurb:
The first time Weiyang saw the experimental subject in the specimen tank, she thought the boy looked just like a pickle soaking in a pickle jar.
When the teacher who brought her on the tour explained that this would be her future research project, she wasn't interested, but still took a few perfunctory glances.
After receiving a stack of documents, the boy left without looking back, following his supervisor.
She thought she'd join the experiment as scheduled in a couple of years. Instead, she received the wonderful news that the lab had exploded and the test subject was missing.
Before she could enjoy the news for long, her superiors ordered her to finish her studies as soon as possible and rebuild the lab.
But no one expected the boy, who had always followed orders, to climb out a window and run away.

Life on the run was too hard. Weiyang decided she needed to find herself a protector.
"So you want to join the Port Mafia?" The black-haired leader sat in an ornately carved armchair, regarding the boy who had come to offer his services with interest.
He had money, and the ability to protect her from the military police. Weiyang was very pleased with the target she'd picked.
She pretended to hesitate. "Yes, Lieutenant Mori. No, Doctor Mori? No, that's not right either. Boss Mori."
Well, this was...
The black-haired leader's expression didn't change. "The Port Mafia welcomes anyone with ambition."
As Weiyang prepared to leave, having gotten what she wanted, she ran into the double black, who had come to report on a mission. She was surprised to see the familiar pickle, and the sharp-eyed boy with bandages caught her fleeting look of astonishment.
"You know this violent little shrimp," he said, sounding certain, but really testing her.
The orange-haired boy, missing the point, bristled. "I'm still growing! I'll get taller!"
Even after being found out, Weiyang didn't panic at all. She calmly made something up. "I just realized he's my ideal type."
The orange-haired boy, caught off guard by the confession: (●°-°●)?
The master and disciple, suddenly witnessing love at first sight: (°_°)
