I'm a poor, sick person, but nobody believes I'm ill.
That is, until an agency called the Seventh Bureau referred me to a new hospital.
As the new doctor asked me questions, I joined a roundtable discussion in my head, striking poses like Commander Ikari, while in the real world I described my condition to him in a panic.
"Mr. Sakaguchi! Help me! I think I have dissociative identity disorder. There's a whole bunch of people having a party in my head!"
My first personality is named Dazai Osamu. In real life, he's my gentle childhood friend, but the personality version in my head is a Mafia boss.
He says his subordinate, me, betrayed him and strangled him to death in his boss's seat.
My second personality is named Nakahara Chuuya. In real life, he's my kind neighbor, but the personality version in my head is also mixed up with the underworld.
He says I was an undercover agent who deceived him, body and soul, and eventually engineered his death by making his ability go out of control. (Don't ask me how he has such an unscientific ability.)
My third personality is named Gojo Satoru. In real life, he was a handsome classmate of mine, but the personality version in my head is the heir to a feudal clan.
He says I was his servant, greedy for wealth and power, who tricked him with sweet words, destroyed his eyes, and caused his miserable death.
My fifth personality is named Furuya Rei. In real life, he's a handsome coworker at the place where I often pick up shifts, but the personality version in my head is an undercover agent sent by the Public Security Bureau to a certain Black Organization.
He says I'm the Black Organization's ace assassin, who pretended to be pitiful to win the trust of his friends, abused them, then exposed his identity as an undercover agent and executed him with my own hands.
I don't understand why an honest, ordinary person like me has so many strange personalities, each of whom talks about another version of me who sounds even more mentally ill.
But with so many personalities arguing in my head, I decided not to dig too deeply. I needed to protect my already-fragile mental state.
Morishita Ryo, male, eighteen years old, registered as a partially awakened ability user. Predicted ability rating: S. Detained by the Seventh Bureau.
Ability: "Parallel Theory"
--The ability user's awakening appears to have been affected by a singularity impact, and the ability that manifested differs from the predicted one. He has therefore been transferred to your custody, pending reassessment of his ability and rating.
As Sakaguchi Ango looked at the transfer documents before him and the man anxiously waiting for his diagnosis, the familiar faces of various people flashed through his mind, along with a cacophony of voices contradicting what the man had just said.
Coming back to himself, he pushed up his glasses with an impassive expression.
"You're not sick, but your mental state is extremely fragile."
Reader's guide:
1. An ordinary protagonist with a rather unusual thought process
2. Personalities who are liars (?)
3. The personalities in his head come from parallel worlds. The protagonist's world is a crossover setting, so there may be two versions of the same character arguing in his head through him (???).
4. Probably written in first person
Theme: Keeping a stable state of mind is important
