Wen Jing transmigrates to a village. The night he arrives, bandits are raiding it. In the chaos, he encounters an injured man in an abandoned temple.
The man's clothes are torn and stained with blood, and he lies weakly on the ground. Wen Jing approaches and tears off a strip of his own clothes to bandage the wound.
The night wind howls through the ruined temple. Beneath the faint moonlight outside the door and the oil lamp burning within, Wen Jing kneels on the ground, trembling as he wraps the man's chest.
Suddenly, a pair of bloodshot, murky eyes opens. A powerful hand clamps around Wen Jing's wrist. The man's hawk-like gaze flashes with dark suspicion as he stares at Wen Jing as if he could bore a hole right through him.
Under the man's long, sinister gaze, Wen Jing feels a wave of heat wash over him. The air fills with the rich scent of roses. Something seems to course through his body, but he can't put it into words. The man pauses, a trace of surprise flickering in his eyes before he hides it. His hand, concealed beneath his sleeve, tightens slightly.
Only afterward does Wen Jing learn that he has transmigrated to an alternate world resembling the Republican era. He is the half-brother of the head of the Haichuan City Chamber of Commerce, and for years there had been confusion over which son was genuine and which was a fake. He has only just been brought back.
The Wen family of Haichuan City is fabulously wealthy. To welcome the young master home, Wen Yuesheng throws a reception for his younger brother. At the banquet, a tall man in a warlord's uniform, with a refined bearing, glances at him over a glass of red wine, his gaze deep and inscrutable.
Wen Jing's heart skips a beat. It's the man from the ruined temple.
Unable to hold his liquor, he leaves the banquet with his head pleasantly woozy. The world swims before his eyes, everything dotted with stars. The sensation from the temple returns, a faint rose scent drifting around him. He presses a hand to the back of his neck, unable to bear it.
"Heh."
A low chuckle comes from behind him. Wen Jing loses his balance and falls into someone's arms. His eyes hazy, he sees the man's handsome, exquisite features swaying before him. The air fills with a deep, woody sandalwood scent.
The man seems to understand. Slowly and unhurriedly, he reaches into the back of Wen Jing's neck. In an instant, sandalwood floods the air and surges toward him. Wen Jing feels as if something is wrapping around his body, and he sinks into an ocean.
"Rose scent."
Wen Jing is pressed into a corner, and vaguely hears someone describe him that way. The man's deep, mellow voice mingles with the scent of sandalwood. Wen Jing's consciousness dissolves, and he gradually sinks into it...
When he wakes, he learns that the man he met that day was the warlord Marshal Fu Qi, powerful enough to make all of Haichuan tremble with a single stamp of his foot.
And, as if things couldn't get worse, he's the Wen brothers' second uncle.
Wen Jing also happened to discover Fu Qi's secret last night. He's probably doomed.
