A Wife's Revenge

Gu Yanchi and I were in an arranged marriage, but it wasn't as if we had no feelings for each other.

At least, I loved him.

I'd been in love with him since we were young, and I was determined to marry no one else.

Even though I knew he didn't love me, I naively believed that sincerity could move even the hardest heart. I thought that one day Gu Yanchi would see how good I was and accept me.

Then one day, I suddenly developed a high fever that wouldn't break and fell into a coma for three whole days. I had nightmares for all three days, too.

In my dream, I learned that my world was actually a novel, and the genre was danmei. The male lead was my husband, and the love interest was his college classmate, Shen Ji.

And I was the sharp thorn stuck between them, buried deep in their flesh and impossible to pull out.

Because of me, after graduating, Shen Ji decisively cut ties with Gu Yanchi, left for another country, and went abroad to pursue further studies.

Gu Yanchi married me out of spite, and they had no contact for years.

Five years later, Shen Ji returned to the country. Reunited after so long, their feelings had only grown stronger. Like dry tinder meeting a raging flame, they fell into each other's arms again.

At first, I didn't believe it. It was just a ridiculous dream with no basis in reality.

But not long afterward, I accidentally found a divorce agreement in Gu Yanchi's study, prepared at some unknown time.

And Shen Ji really did return in the fifth year.

I broke down. In that moment, all my love turned into a towering hatred.

I wanted revenge. I wanted to make him suffer and despair, to break his pride and make him crawl before me, as lowly as dust.

But I knew it was impossible. Gu Yanchi was powerful and influential, and he didn't love me.

All I could do was drag things out with him.

But was I really taking revenge on him, or only tormenting myself?

Just as I was about to give up and agree to a divorce, the world suddenly evolved, and people began to differentiate into six sexes.

I differentiated as an alpha.

Gu Yanchi became an omega, as did his beloved Shen Ji.

The balance of power had reversed. Our roles had switched.

Now, it seemed my revenge might actually be possible.

P.S. The beloved is the result of a misunderstanding. There is no BL plot, and the original novel's plot differs from the main story. This isn't a feel-good power fantasy. The tone is bittersweet, with an everyone-loves-the-protagonist setup, and both angst and sweetness.
