As a child, he was a slave gladiator on Nuceria. After refusing to kill his adoptive father, he was forcibly implanted with the Butcher's Nails, which could only ease his agony through killing. And the son he'd raised from childhood had turned into a lunatic who chopped people up and shouted, "Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!" all day long. While he was already struggling to deal with all this, he somehow transmigrated to the 30th millennium. By the time his memories returned, he had already been forced to take over a Legion, and an Eighth Company captain who looked just like his adopted son was calling him "my Primarch."
