Zhong Yaowan is a modern-day office drudge, spending every day at his boss's beck and call, so busy he forgets what the world is.
At long last, the ancestral worship holiday he'd been looking forward to turned into a full-blown ghost-sighting extravaganza.
Their car was stranded in the mountains, their signal was gone, and now monsters were eating people?!
Come on, I was only going home to worship my ancestors! How did I end up opening the door to a whole new world?!
Zhong Yaowan: "What's that?"
Ying Guiliao: "A monster."
Zhong Yaowan nearly lost it: "Is this freaking normal?!"
After barely escaping the man-eating mountain village, Zhong Yaowan thought he could finally get back to his nine-to-nine life in the "human world." But Ying Guiliao blocked his way home.
Ying Guiliao: "Want to join our spirit-hunting agency?"
Zhong Yaowan gave a crooked smile. "Do I look like I want to spend every day rubbing shoulders with monsters?"
Ying Guiliao: "Four days on, three days off, seven types of insurance and a housing fund, a permanent position, meals and lodging included, plus thirty days of paid annual leave as soon as you start."
Zhong Yaowan: "..."
Well...
Maybe... this job wasn't entirely out of the question.
-
A little scene with the workaholic and the openly flirtatious guy:
Tree shadows swayed outside the window, while two figures stood together inside. Zhong Yaowan leaned against Ying Guiliao, the two of them so close their breaths mingled, so close that one more tilt of the head would bring their lips together.
Zhong Yaowan opened his mouth.
Ying Guiliao said, "Zhong Yaowan, if you talk about work right now, you can forget about kissing me for the rest of your life."
Zhong Yaowan pushed him away, expressionless.
Ying Guiliao immediately surrendered and pulled him back. "Fine, fine, you're my ancestor! Let's talk business! Ask whatever you want, and when you're done, remember to..."
Zhong Yaowan: "Oh, I was just teasing you. I don't have anything to ask."
Ying Guiliao: "..."
Ying Guiliao: "Are you sick in the head, Zhong Yaowan?!"

"Working with the dead has never been a simple farewell ritual. It is a long, slow torture of human nature. Unlike forensic pathologists or criminal investigators, we cannot simply face a cold ending. We must cut open the very fabric of time and experience the dead's entire lives, from their first unsteady steps to the shaping of their personalities, from their first encounter with the world to their sudden end. These aren't stories about strangers. It's like watching fate choke the breath from a dear friend, again and again, with no escape from the nightmare repeating itself."
"There is no escape from the rot of human nature."

The following is a preview of an upcoming story, officially launching in late April.
If you're interested, please give the author a little star!
-The Fairy Tale Pass-
A money-loving, looks-obsessed, bking top x a cool, beautiful war-god bottom
Adventure and business management + the good life in a small town + a chaotic mix of fairy-tale elements
-
At the edge of the first layer of the mainland of Weilai lies a small stretch of water.
No one knows why there is a patch of deep blue water on this barren continent.
No one cares where the water came from.
No one cares whether it is seawater or lake water.
Everyone is already struggling with all their might just to survive on this land.
*
Yishun, an illusion-crafter from the Weilai Continent who can use magic to conjure anything into reality, left after disagreeing with his superior, the old king. He headed to the second layer of the Weilai Continent, where he went incognito and started a general-services shop.
These days, Yishun spends his time fixing chimneys for dwarves, working as a princess's bodyguard, and occasionally sharing gossip with mermaids. He also adopts the odd cat or dog, and keeps getting closer to his little goal of saving up a hundred million.
That is, until he picked up a wooden beauty from the slums.
The beauty was astonishingly handsome, but strangely wooden in his behavior. He wouldn't move without being given instructions. Even the talking teapot in the Beast's castle seemed more human than he did.
And yet this wooden beauty spent every day obsessively thinking about the same question: how to get to the royal domain.
Yishun: "Why do you want to go to the royal domain?"
Wuhuan: "I'm wanted."
Yishun: "..." How novel. A wanted criminal wanted to turn himself in.
Yishun: "You need a special pass to go there. People like us can't get one."
Wuhuan: "Can you take me there? I know you can make passes."
Yishun: "..." How novel. A wanted criminal inviting another wanted criminal to turn themselves in together.
To keep his own fugitive status from being exposed, the miserly boss had planned to get rid of this hot potato... no, this beauty, right away.
But then he saw Wuhuan sitting quietly by the window, sunlight falling on his eyelashes like scattered gold...
Yishun clutched his heart (and his wallet). "...Forget it. I'll keep him."
-
A little scene with the unscrupulous boss, who can't resist a beauty, and the beauty, who knows the boss can't resist him:
Yishun felt Wuhuan was getting better and better at playing him lately.
Take the present moment, for example. Wuhuan held a bamboo fan and gently tapped it against Yishun's cheek. His movements were neither alluring nor deliberate, and he wasn't trying to flatter him. But those eyes seemed to hold a thin veil of mist as they shifted, winding around Yishun like silk. Just being looked at like that made his head spin.
He wanted to look away, but the bamboo fan remained pressed against his skin.
Coolness seeped into him, not letting him retreat or escape.
He watched Wuhuan part his lips slightly. The long hair at his temple fell down and brushed his cheek as if by chance, stirring a heart-fluttering itch.
Then he heard him ask, "You really can't make me a pass?"
Yishun gritted his teeth. "I can, I can! I'll make as many as you want!"
-
Reading Tips:
1. Yishun really is a looks-obsessed man. He thinks beautiful people are beautiful, but with anyone other than Wuhuan, his admiration stops at, "The Goddess Nuwa really knew how to make people."
2. Yishun has a proper Chinese name, which will be revealed as the story progresses.
3. Wuhuan has severe trauma responses early on, but recovers so quickly that Yishun briefly thinks his behavior at the start was all an act. But... maybe it really was an act?
Theme: Obsession becomes a trial; face death and live. The one who breaks the stalemate is also caught in the game.
The obsessive pursuit of fairness will only breed injustice

😭It hurts so much. Two people who love each other so much are separated by yin and yang.
"Ying Gui Liao then smiled and loosened the clamp..." This is a big bug for the author~
I can't remember who Su Qing is.
Why don't you just say he is the boss?
Sorry, I scolded you too early in the last chapter 🐶
Why does this uncle have no sense of service and self-awareness?
Alas, it's really frustrating, in so many places. What is happening in the underworld is not controlled by the underworld. Although this is a value, I really want to let the green-faced ghost kill all those people, or torture and kill them in private. As long as I am not mentally burdened, who knows what happened in the mountains if I don't tell them.
