Even while the late emperor was alive, Ji Rong was already known to everyone as a treacherous minister.
Rumor had it that he committed every kind of evil, abusing the late emperor's trust to run amok. He was the emperor's sharpest claw.
The late emperor was a tyrant, and Ji Rong was a treacherous minister.
Everyone said Ji Rong was a vicious dog loyal to the tyrant.
2.
The late emperor passed away, and a new emperor ascended the throne.
The first thing the new emperor did was strip Ji Rong of his position as chancellor.
With the treacherous minister gone, everyone cheered.
Ask where the minister went?
He was probably dumped in some mass grave.
3.
The new emperor was clever, resourceful, and benevolent. Word was that his harem had recently gained a new favorite, a peerlessly beautiful woman who could topple kingdoms. The emperor doted on her every day.
The old ministers were deeply pleased.
But no news of a pregnancy ever came. Then one day...
At the emperor's birthday banquet, many ministers saw him getting handsy with a man beneath an osmanthus tree, their manner intimate.
Everyone felt as if they had been struck by eighty-one bolts of heavenly lightning.
Looking again, the man looked exactly like the infamous treacherous minister Ji Rong.
Ha ha.
The sky had fallen.
The two groups stared at each other, silence spreading all around.
Ji Rong chuckled, raised an eyebrow, and greeted them. "Good day, everyone."
The ministers forced a smile. "G-good day."
Ha ha.
The earth had split open.

A piece of news had recently been spreading rapidly among the officials:
The disgraced chancellor, whose corpse had been dumped in a mass grave, had come back to life and become the emperor's most beloved bewitching consort!
An emperor gong who thought he was in a mutual-pining story, only for it to turn into forced love and then a groveling pursuit (though not really)
A nation-toppling (crossed out) all-powerful (crossed out) beautiful bewitching consort (checked) former chancellor turned bewitching consort (nods) shou
• 1v1, both virgins, a sweet romance focused on feelings.
• Mutual pining. The gong is a jealous, reserved, slightly crazy type; the shou likes the gong but doesn't realize it.
• The shou wears women's clothing at one point.
• The wording isn't strictly in a classical style. Don't overanalyze it; readability comes first.

Xu Weiqing died.
He died amid a sky full of drifting peach blossoms, his sword broken and his body destroyed.
Some said he was jealous by nature, envious of his senior brother's profound cultivation and extraordinary talent. So he plotted against him, dug the sword bone from his body, and scattered his soul.
Some said he had no respect for his teachers, was a habitual thief, and had a twisted temperament. He stole the sect's secret treasure and committed heinous crimes, until his third senior brother upheld justice by killing him with a sword on the spot.
Some said he wielded a divine sword that could slay gods and Buddhas, yet instead of using it to banish evil and bring peace to the world, he turned it on his fellow disciples and slaughtered the innocent.
A white-haired sword cultivator sitting at the edge of the crowd chuckled at the stories. He seemed quite interested in the infamous Xu Weiqing, and asked eagerly, "And then?"
And then?
Then he died.
He died abandoned by everyone, beneath his third senior brother's sword. After his death, ten thousand people mocked him; not one had anything good to say.
And the peach blossoms filling the sky had been there to hide the countless evils he had committed in life.
The white-haired sword cultivator nodded in understanding and gave a quiet scoff.
The man beside him slapped the table, ready to argue, but the white-haired sword cultivator pulled him down and ruffled his hair a few times, soothing him softly. "All right, all right. Don't be mad. Let's go."
A passerby looked up and saw the two standing side by side. The white-haired sword cultivator's hair fluttered gently, and as he flew off on his sword, its light flashed around him, his elegance unmatched.
People have always loved gossip, and the more bizarre and exaggerated a story is, the more readily they believe it.
So Xu Weiqing was depraved, lazy, and a drunk...
But no one remembered that he had once sealed the Ghost Realm with a single sword, bearing all the backlash alone until his cultivation was completely lost and his hair turned white overnight.
Nor did anyone remember that he had once stood above all others in the Immortal Realm's grand selection, winning first place as a prodigy when his sword, Wudu, flashed into view.
Four hundred years later, the Ghost Realm's barrier shattered once more, and countless ghost cultivators invaded the human world.
Wudu burst through the void. As in days past, swordlight flashed, dazzling the mortal realm.
He stood atop the clouds in white, surrounded by peach blossoms, and slew ghosts and gods with a single strike.

Xi Bai opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was the immortal lord in flowing white robes.
A glimpse of breathtaking beauty, unforgettable for a lifetime.
After he crawled out of the River of Chaos, all he heard in the world was that the Skylark Immortal Lord had fallen into the ghost path, become bloodthirsty, and finally been slain by the immortal sects, his soul scattered.
He didn't believe it.
He didn't believe Xu Weiqing was dead, and he didn't believe the rumors repeated by everyone.
He was born for Xu Weiqing, drew his sword for Xu Weiqing, and devoted his whole life to Xu Weiqing.
He was a natural-born demon, born beside the River of Chaos. Dazed and mindless, he knew only the madness etched into his bones and blood, and the endless bloody battles of those long years. Then, one day, the immortal lord saved him, and he gained awareness. From then on, he had emotions and desires, and learned how to be a proper person.
The immortal lord saved me from my foolish, benighted existence without a second thought.
A laid-back, shameless gong who puts the shou above all else × a white-haired, sickly beauty shou with maxed-out combat prowess
