[Danganronpa] I'm Fighting Monokuma? Seriously?

I wanted to read a new Danganronpa game, but Kodaka isn't making one. The Danganronpa fanfic I was following has stopped updating too, so I'm out of reading material. Guess I'll have to write my own.

Since I'm writing this to satisfy myself, there will be plenty of the author's personal preferences. Also, logic is long dead, so please don't expect me to come up with incredibly ingenious cases. There will be some strange developments that may be a little surreal (probably).

Most of the story is told in the male protagonist's first-person perspective. The point of view may switch occasionally, or change to third person.

*The male protagonist grows over time... Most of the other characters are quite mature, so they generally end up dragging him along (yeah).

Also, the title doesn't really have much to do with the story itself. If you have any good suggestions, feel free to share them and help out an author who's hopeless at coming up with titles.

Here's the story blurb:

I'm Rin Umi, the "Ultimate Mathematician" recruited by Hope's Peak Academy. I was full of hope for my future, and with that expectation in my heart, I arrived at Hope's Peak Academy carrying my letter of acceptance.

Like the opening of an overused video game, I heard a voice calling from somewhere unknown. When I opened my eyes, lying beside me on the beach and soaked through was a person who looked as if they'd been marinated in seawater...

I-is this right? Is it? It is, right? It is... No, it isn't!

After dragging this person back with all my strength, I discovered that he was a boy about my age.

And so, in an uninhabited seaside town, sixteen high school boys and girls, an unsettling sense of dissonance with reality, vague memories, and the malicious headmaster Monokuma... A crazy and despair-filled death game, where the only way to survive is to fight for your life, begins.

"I'm Rin Umi, the 'Ultimate Mathematician.' Nice to meet you."

"Sorry... I..."

"...I forgot."

"Please wake up."

"...Please, I'm begging you."

"Please, save...!"

The sea breeze blew against me, its salty dampness lifting the pale yellow curtains. Beyond them, a bunch of yellow freesias bloomed wildly in a vase on the windowsill.

"Yellow freesias represent the hope of new beginnings."

The girl held out her hand to me.

"It might be presumptuous of me to say this, but still, welcome to Hope's Peak Academy."

Theme: Hope will ultimately overcome despair.
