After the Beautiful Mother Faked Her Death

Before she turned five, Jing Que depended on her beautiful mother, and the two of them had only each other.

That winter, when Jing Que was five, a rare blizzard swept through Jiangnan. Along with the blizzard came a father she had never seen before.

He arrived with a huge entourage. Guards led the way, and torches stretched as far as the eye could see, stirring up the entire region for miles around.

Her father took both her and her mother away.

They traveled by water. When the boat reached the middle of the river, her beautiful mother and she agreed on a plan: her mother would escape by diving into the water, while Jing Que stayed behind to buy time. Once they reached the capital, her mother would find a way to rescue her.

Left behind, Jing Que saw her father. When he learned that her mother had fallen into the water and vanished, he seemed to go mad.

Five-year-old Jing Que: How am I supposed to get by with a crazy dad from now on? ≥﹏≤

Later, the tyrannical and obsessive regent held a little wooden comb and carefully braided his precious daughter's hair. "Little Que, is this how your mother used to do your hair?"

Little Jing Que raised her chin slightly and said in a childish voice, "Not like that. Mama used to tie little butterflies."

"..." The regent went straight back to practice making little butterflies.

A mother who faked her death, a father who went mad, and a child who watches the show. A story about her parents' love, told from the child's perspective, as they fight to possess each other. Also a parenting story: the beautiful mother raises the child versus the eccentric, sadistic regent raises the child, a study in contrasts.

Premise: Love that lasts until death, and never stops
