Before they got married, Zhou Yanting was the kind of boss Fang Youning hated most: old-fashioned and arrogant, strict with others, and so fault-finding that he even demanded the contract seals along the page edges be perfectly aligned.

Even that enthusiasm was limited. One day on, one day off, all year round, following such a rigid routine it was like clocking in at work.

Fang Youning was exhausted by it all. But he wasn't just her husband, he was also her boss, so all she could do was put up with it.

But as their marriage went on, Zhou Yanting's behavior showed no sign of improving. It only got worse.

Their relationship grew so cold that he started staying out all night, and she had no idea why.

Once is bad, twice is worse, and a third time is out of the question. Enough is enough.

Fang Youning had had it with the empty facade of harmony in their marriage.

At last, after he returned from yet another business trip without so much as a word, Fang Youning stopped him. Standing before the floor-to-ceiling window, she calmly analyzed their situation and proposed that they separate.

"Mr. Zhou, haven't you realized? We're not right for each other."

She met his deep, shadowed gaze.

Fang Youning thought a man as proud as Zhou Yanting would probably just nod in silence. He would never try to talk her out of it.

She was only half right. The man before her, lounging with an air of noble ease, gave a cold laugh that revealed nothing of his feelings. "Not right for each other? What exactly isn't right?"

He stepped closer, loosened his tie with one hand, and bent over her, trapping her against the window. His breath fell heavily against her. "Honey, you're mistaken. I think we're a perfect fit."

That night, Fang Youning didn't make it out of the room.

For the entire following week, Fang Youning didn't make it out of the room either.
