(Plans have changed. This one is pretty brain-burning, so I’m planning to start the mermaid story next door first.)
In the tenth year after the seven main cities appeared, on another perfectly ordinary morning, a new group of chosen task-takers was about to enter their first mission.
But no matter how long they waited, the seventh task-taker never showed up.
Until a patch of shadow at their feet shifted.
A pair of crescent moons, the color of a clear sky after rain, appeared before them.
The shadow let out a puzzled meow. “Mew? Is everyone here now?”
*
In the dim factory, incandescent bulbs coated in thick grime struggled to drive away the darkness.
The factory manager, whose face looked like a mask painted white, announced the standard for their “successful graduation”:
“Make a complete garment on your own.”
A meow broke the dead silence.
A cat blacker than the darkness stood on its hind legs and showed everyone its freshly licked, pink paw pads.
“Ma’am, cat paws don’t seem suited to making clothes, mew!”
*
Another day, and diligent Bu Ming was hard at work operating the sewing machine.
A scream came from nearby, followed by cries of growing panic: “No, no, no, this fabric is wrong! It’s alive, it’s eating me, ”
Without even looking up, Bu Ming deftly turned the fabric. A little outlined cat was about to appear beneath his paws.
[Humans really do overthink things. This fabric feels smooth. How could it eat anyone? Cat is going to make a piece of clothing for Fu Yu!]

Fu Yu, who had fought hard to make it out alive, felt the sky was falling when he learned that his beloved cat had entered a mission too.
He held the cat by the armpits and tried his best to look angry.
The cat licked its paw smugly. “You said good little cats have the best luck.”
Fu Yu held back the urge to cuddle the cat and continued pretending to be mad. “And?”
The cat looked innocent. “So Cat gets to enter missions with Fu Yu now~”
Fu Yu: “...”
*
Ever since Bu Ming unexpectedly gained a human body in one of the missions, Fu Yu had been rather troubled.
The little cat he had raised with a bottle and a bowl of food kept parading around in a face he couldn’t resist, and still acted like a ten-pound kitten, climbing all over him from time to time.
As a bearer of beauty, Bu Ming’s human form was exactly what Fu Yu imagined his perfect muse would look like.
He wasn’t the sort of person who could stay unmoved by temptation!
But he was the first creature the kitten saw when it opened its eyes. Maybe it was simply attached to him like a “mother.”
Until one day,
The kitten cornered him against the wall, struggled to rise onto its toes for a wall-pin, and put on what it thought was a devilishly charismatic expression. “Human, Cat wants to date you. No refusing!”
Fu Yu: (eyes shaking) [Damn it, who taught my kitten to be like this!!!]

An innocent, direct, and virtuous black cat on the bottom × a reserved, steady painter who is a cat-obsessed fiend on top
Bu Ming × Fu Yu
There are no overpowered golden fingers in this story. Everyone is an ordinary person going through missions, and the cat’s only golden fingers are that it can speak human language and turn into a human.
Everyone gets through the missions on their own merits, and each mission has a solution that can be found.
The first mission has dual perspectives, with the leads completing it separately. They’ll stay together from then on.
The author will do their best to make something new out of familiar ingredients. Please give it a try!
