Jing Liu is a tree spirit.
Demons and monsters ravaged the Cangxuan Continent, and her people perished in the flames amid the devastation.
A thousand years later, once she had gained the ability to leave the land where she had taken root, she set out to exterminate the demons and monsters.
Along the way, she met mortals and cultivators fighting against them, and joined them on their journey.
The demons and monsters were formidable, while mortal lives were fragile: brilliant as fireworks, gone in the blink of an eye.
Tree spirits lived long lives. Jing Liu had seen so many mortals live and die that she was used to it. She would bury the dead and then continue on her way.
Before she set out, she heard someone call, "How about we travel together?"
Jing Liu turned around. She saw a man in white, a long sword at his waist and flowers in his hands. He was placing them, one bouquet at a time, on unmarked graves.
He turned back and smiled at her. "My name is Jue Ming. I'm here to slay the demons, too."
*
Jue Ming was a reliable traveling companion.
Clad in white and carrying his sword, he joined her in cleansing one demon-ravaged city after another. In time, people came to honor him as Immortal Lord Zhuming and Jing Liu as the Qingyang Sacred Spirit.
Standing side by side, one in green and one in white, they were like the sun and moon shining together, invincible wherever they went.
Together, they fought their way to the Demon Lord's palace.
In the end, the Demon Lord died.
And Jue Ming's time stopped forever on that day.
*
Jing Liu knew perfectly well that this mortal cultivator had a short life. She had thought of him as just another passing sight, and had long prepared herself for his death, ready to accept it as calmly as she had all the others.
But when that day truly came, she discovered that something inside her heart felt as though it had been hollowed out.
Someone told her that Jue Ming's soul had scattered to many places, and that gathering its pieces could bring him back from the dead. So Jing Liu set out to search for them.
The journey was fraught with hardship and danger. Before she had gathered his soul fragments, she unexpectedly found proof that he had loved her...
Note: Happy ending.
