Nan Chu was so close to becoming a ghostly shut-in.
Other wandering spirits could at least scare people for fun. But because of a screw-up at the unreliable "Underworld Civil Service System," she became a special entity bound to the System, unable even to play pranks. Every day, she followed the System through the vast sea of humanity, searching for a dying person whose birth chart matched hers and who happened to have an unfulfilled wish.
But their wishes were more outrageous than the last: today they wanted to become billionaires, tomorrow they wanted to be top-tier stars...
Nan Chu screamed at the System countless times: "I'm just a ghost with a little magic! I'm not the turtle in a wishing pond responsible for granting wishes!"
System (sheepishly): [...Let's keep looking. There has to be someone eventually.]
And so she drifted on, for who knew how long. Until one glaringly sunny afternoon, the System suddenly went ding:
[Nan Chuyin, 22 years old, die-hard G-Dragon fan, late-stage cancer, with 72 hours left on her life countdown. Her wish is to attend her idol's concert.]
Nan Chu froze, then was instantly swept up in joy. "A concert?! That's all?! I'll take it! Right now! No hesitation! Only an idiot would turn it down!"
She didn't even read carefully the line of tiny, almost transparent text at the bottom of the golden-glowing "Soul Exchange Agreement":
[Additional wish: It would be nice if I could stay by Oppa's side forever and see him often.]
Thinking she'd only accepted an easy "one-day concert trip" assignment, Nan Chu happily slipped into Nan Chuyin's still-warm body.
As she savored the long-missed sensation of a heartbeat and breathing, examining her new face in the mirror, the System's notification sounded again, as cold as a funeral bell:
[Warning: A hidden wish of the original host, Nan Chuyin, has been activated: "Stay by G-Dragon's side forever." This wish is a binding mission. If it cannot be continuously fulfilled, the compatibility between the soul and the body will gradually decline, ultimately causing the body to perish and the soul to... be annihilated.]
The smile on Nan Chu's face froze instantly.
She hastily pulled up the agreement and finally saw that deadly line of fine print. Using its last shred of energy, the System left her a few hurried instructions: [The original body's memories and identity information have been transferred! The concert ticket is on the bedside table! Do your best to stay alive! I... I'm leaving first!] Then the signal cut out. No matter how much Nan Chu raged in her mind, there was no response.
Nan Chu. No, she was "Nan Chuyin" now. She looked at the eyes in the mirror, rekindled by shock and fury, and clenched her fists.
She'd been played! The seemingly innocent die-hard fan and that damned System had teamed up to play her!
But her overwhelming will to survive soon overpowered everything else. She breathed in deeply, filling her lungs with air that smelled of disinfectant, and managed a crooked but resolute smile.
"Fine. Great. Everything is for the sake of staying alive."
"Mr. G-Dragon, I'm sorry. From today on, you may find there's an inseparable piece of clingy gum in your life."
