Chang Kuan returns to his sect after his artifact is stolen and gets a beating. He holds a grudge against that wild fox and secretly vows to kill her, adding a glorious achievement to his record.
So he follows Huai Jiu for days. Just as he is about to strike the fatal blow, a burst of golden light sends him flying.
Chang Kuan: “?”
Huai Jiu: “Oh? Your artifact's turned on you. How sad.”
After several assassination attempts, Chang Kuan can't even touch a single hair on Huai Jiu's tail.
Chang Kuan: Fine. I'll kill you after I figure out what's going on!
One day, he hears that Huai Jiu has been captured by a sect and is near death. Without a second thought, he grabs his sword and rushes to rescue her.
He leaves the sect littered with corpses and finds Huai Jiu badly injured, desperately clinging to a vine at the edge of a cliff, afraid she'll fall.
Chang Kuan's eyes grow wet. He rushes forward, grabs her hand, and pulls her up to safety. “Xiao Jiu, I've come to save you. Come with me, quick!”
Huai Jiu stares at their tightly clasped hands, her face lighting up with delight. “A Kuan, you can touch me now!”
Then she asks, puzzled, “Why didn't you kill me, even after you went on a rampage? Wasn't that your wish?”
Chang Kuan: Is this really the time to talk about that?
