[Reading Guide]
* One-on-one romance, a coming-of-age story, not quite a true dual-powerhouse pairing
* An old-school novel with a slow build and a touch of ensemble cast, because I want to tell everyone's story to the end~
* The story has many clues and foreshadowing, all of which will be explained later. The romance and plot are split about evenly
* The clothing and institutions are mostly modeled on the Ming dynasty
* Lots of fictional worldbuilding, so please don't nitpick historical details
* Please don't discuss people unrelated to this book in the comments. Respect one another, thank you
* An aspiring writer with an immature style (self-proclaimed), and a chronic late updater

Preview: What Should I Do When My Archrival Suddenly Says They Like Me?
Huai Jiu is a formidable fighter, undefeated across the demon realm. But one day, her master kicks her out and sends her to the human realm, where she becomes a scruffy wild fox, dirt poor and scraping by on bounty jobs.
Only, after accepting a bounty, she ends up being the one hunted...
Huai Jiu: How can anyone be this unlucky?
Just as she thinks she's escaped the clutches of her pursuers, she spots a bracelet that has appeared out of nowhere on her wrist.
Huai Jiu: Huh?
It seems she accidentally swiped someone's magical artifact.
What should she do? This is urgent!
*
Chang Kuan, whose magical artifact was swiped, returns to his sect and gets beaten. He holds a grudge against that wild fox and secretly vows to kill her, so he can add a shining achievement to his record.
So he follows Huai Jiu for days, and just as he's about to strike a deadly blow, a flash of golden light sends him flying.
Chang Kuan: "?"
Huai Jiu: "Huh? Your magical artifact betrayed you? How tragic."
After several assassination attempts, Chang Kuan still can't even touch a single hair on Huai Jiu's tail.
Chang Kuan: Fine. I'll kill her after I figure out what's going on!
One day, he hears that Huai Jiu has been captured by a sect and is in mortal danger. Without a second thought, he grabs his sword and rushes to save her.
He leaves the sect strewn with corpses, then spots Huai Jiu, badly injured and clinging desperately to a vine on the cliff's edge for fear of falling.
With tears in his eyes, Chang Kuan rushes over, grabs her hand, and pulls her to safety. "Xiao Jiu, I've come to save you! Hurry, come with me!"
Huai Jiu stares at their tightly clasped hands, her face alight with joy. "A Kuan, you can touch me now!"
Then she asks in confusion, "Why didn't you kill me, even after you went on a rampage? Isn't that what you wanted?"
Chang Kuan: Is this really the time to talk about that?
