How can vampires survive in modern society?
Chen Shu is a vampire boy from a Lovecraftian world, with half Eastern human blood. After transmigrating one day, he became an overworked police station employee on a nine-to-nine schedule, responsible for criminal profiling.
Everyone knows him as cool and distant, bland and aloof, able to spot a lie and identify the culprit at a glance. He's the famous unattainable beauty of the police station. But nobody knows that by nature he's kind and innocent, lively and energetic, and universally recognized in his neighborhood as a model young man.
So why act so cold?
Thanks for asking. He doesn't want to, but he has no choice.
Just consider how strange it is to have a low-temperature field around you, a mysterious condition that makes your eyes turn blood-red when you're emotional, and an odd taste for fried pig's blood and spicy blood curd stew.
The first step to concealing his identity is to keep a sufficiently wide social distance from humans.
But while he managed to keep humans at a distance, the "unspeakable" came to him.
After a heavy rainstorm, strange incidents began cropping up, keeping the police station extremely busy.
"Chen Shu, any leads on last night's wild animal attack on XX Street?"
Chen Shu looked through the case file. Hmm... judging by the traces, it looked like the bite of a demon wolf from the monster hunters in his original world.
"Chen Shu, the wheat fields in the eastern suburbs were maliciously set on fire. Have you figured out the suspect's motive?"
Chen Shu opened the crime scene photos. Hmm... judging by the shape, it looked like a teleportation magic circle left by a witch.
He suddenly understood.
So the storm had brought more than cool weather. It had brought people from back home, too.
When old friends meet, tears fill their eyes.
Chen Shu didn't send the old friends he caught to the police station. Instead, he found them new places to live.
They were so moved that they immediately knelt down and cried, "O secret of the eternal night, may your hunger and thirst never cease. We are willing to become your servants of the night and follow you forever!"
Chen Shu: "..."
Good grief, is that any way to curse him?
Besides, he was a half-blood who wasn't even qualified to experience the extermination-day sunbathing that came with a god's descent. How could he possibly deserve the title of "secret"?
Only after asking did he learn that the era his old friends came from was two thousand years in his future. History had been lost, magic was on the verge of collapse, and humanity worshiped blindly. Even vampires, once universally reviled and now extinct, had been elevated to the status of secret gods.
Chen Shu: Well, after playing the aloof type for seven years, he's suddenly become an ancient relic from a thousand years ago.
Looking at the frenzied reverence in his old friends' eyes, he neither admitted nor denied it.
Sometimes hope is more precious than the truth.
