After all that, it turned out the two of them had never had a grudge in the first place.
The guilt he'd carried for years lifted in an instant. Song Jiming felt light as a feather and was just about to happily return to his life of luxury and leisure when someone grabbed him fiercely by the wrist as he turned away.
An intensely domineering presence enveloped him. He looked up and met Lu Zhanjing's deep, fathomless black eyes, where emotions he couldn't understand were churning.
The man's fingers tightened, his breathing low and heavy, his grip pressing in with an unmistakable force that allowed no escape.

The gong plays dumb to catch his prey at first.
The shou fell and hit his head in an accident, so his memories of the past are distorted early on.
They aren't related. The shou's mother was adopted by a powerful family, so she has no blood ties to the gong or the cousin in the story.
The shou has a bit of a strained relationship with his biological older brother, but they'll work things out gradually. No angst.
