A Landlady in Republican-Era China (Transmigrate Into a Book)

Gu Zhaozhao's father resigned from office after the government was formed, taking the whole family to Shanghai to live as a retired gentleman. The Ninth Concubine, who ran the household, played the victim and pleaded for sympathy, then split up the remaining branches of the family. Gu Zhaozhao and her mother, the Third Concubine, received a five-bay shikumen house in the French Concession. From then on, mother and daughter lived as landladies.

Then Gu Zhaozhao discovered that she had transmigrated into a book, and not just one book.

The left wing is home to a female lead who writes for a living, supporting her abandoned mother and younger sister with her pen.

The right wing is home to a young marshal's wife, who ran away while pregnant, caught up in a tale of love and hate.

And there are also reporters, doctors...

Gu Zhaozhao sighs: What a joy it is to live in a field of gossip.

It's just that somehow, she has become the biggest piece of gossip of all.

A fiance who takes out a newspaper notice to break off their engagement, her mother's late-life romance, and Gu Zhaozhao becoming the big sister of the Shanghai underworld.

Ensemble cast. There is a male lead, but I haven't decided who yet.
